Eleventh and sixteenth president Rev. Edward A. Higgins was born December 23, 1839 in Carlow, County Carlow, Ireland and came to America with his parents in 1849. He studied at St. Aloysius College, Louisville, KY and St. Joseph’s College, Bardstown, KY. He entered the Society of Jesus in Florissant, MO in 1854 and was ordained in 1869. In addition to his two terms at Xavier, he was also president of St. Ignatius College, Chicago, IL and St. Mary’s College, Lebanon, KY. He was provincial of the Missouri Province from 1879-1882. He died December 4, 1902 in Cincinnati, OH.
